The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley serves the counties of Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull in eastern Ohio.
We hold our monthly meetings the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Mill Creek MetroParks farm in Canfield Ohio on Route 46. Our social time begins at 6:30 pm.with our featured presentation at 7:00 pm. Our meetings will begin in September and continue through April except for December. September 22nd. See live hawks and owls as we kickoff our fall meetings with Heather Merritt from Birds in Flight. 165 people attended this meeting.
October 27th. Musuems all over the country have bird collections. What can be gained by examining these specimens. Casey Tucker of the Columbus Zoo will be our presenter. "What Dead Birds tell us" is the title of his presentation.
November 24th. Jim Kerr the curator of the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center at Beaver Creek State Park will return as our guest speaker. He will tell us all about the critters that live in our wetlands and marshes.
December- no meeting.
January 26th. Ray Novotny from Mill Creek MetroParks will present a talk on the father of birding, Roger Tory Peterson and his connection to our area.
February 23rd. We will be having a fun night with our kickoff of the Audubon Game Show: Name that Bird. Audience member will try to identfy various species from visual and audio clues. Prizes will be awarded for winners.
March 23rd. Spring migration is just beginning. Our presentation tonight will be on bird migration. How do they migrate from South America to our backyards each year without a map or GPS?
April 27th . Our final meeting will be on the Facinating Flying Creatures of the Mill Creek MetroPark wildlife Sanctuary. Larry Roche and Judy Senroc of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will enlighten us about their multiyear research at the sanctuary and what they have found.
